In a virtual 5G summit, Reliance and Qualcomm made the announcement. Both the companies have confirmed achieving 1Gbps of speed during the 5G trails. Jio 5GNR solution is using Qualcomm 5G RAN platform. Clocking 1 Gbps of speed marks India’s readiness to enter the 5G era.
Reliance Jio Infocomm President, Mathew Oommen said, “The development of secure RAN solutions with Qualcomm Technologies combined with Jio Platforms and scale provides the ideal combination for local manufacturing and for accelerating the realization of Atmanirbhar Bharat for an inclusive 5G nation.”
The technology will enable India users with low latency communication, enhanced digital experience across mobile, 5G smartphones, and a wide array of other connected devices. The investment made by Qualcomm Ventures will further deepen the ties between Qualcomm and Jio Platforms. Qualcomm Ventures has invested Rs 730 crore for 0.15% stake in Jio.
Durga Malladi, General Manager, 4G/5G, Qualcomm Technologies said, “Ecosystem collaborations like this play a critical role in allowing operators and industry verticals to quickly and easily add 5G network coverage and capacity where and when it is needed most.”
The progress on 5G product portfolio details Jio’s involvement to develop homegrown 5G telecom solutions. Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani said that Jio’s 5G technology is built-in India using 100% solutions and technology.
