The Head of Network solutions at Ericsson, Nitin Bansal, the year 2021 is expected to have the first 5G connectivity in India in the spectrum auction.
As per the report released on Monday, 15% of the global population, stating more than 1 billion people will live with 5G coverage in next year that will increase to 60% of the global population by the end of 2026 projecting 3.5 Billion. This will include 27% of mobile subscriptions.
The report also mentioned that at 15.7 Gb per month, India is one of the highest average traffic generator countries using mobile phones.
Ericsson Mobility Report Editor and Head of Strategic Marketing, Insights States, Patrik Cerwall states that the affordable smartphones, the decline in broadband services, and average time spent on the internet has increased the overall usage over time. Hence, by the year 2026, the total traffic is predicted to quadruple and cross the 35 EB (exabytes) per month.
In 2020, the 4G or LTE network accounted for 63% of the mobile subscriptions and will continue to have a hold on the users. Whereas 3G will eventually collapse by 2026.
By 2026, the 4G users will increase from 710 million to 820 million with a CAGR of 2%. Whereas mobile broadband technology will reach 91% by 2026 (reaching 1.2 Billion mobile broadband subscriptions) which account for 67% of mobile subscriptions in the present time.
The report also suggests that, domestically, there will be a growth of 760 million smartphone subscriptions by 2020 that will reach 1.2 Billion by 2026 with a CAGR of 7%.
