F8 developer conference in May 2018. Facebook has already started rolling out this 3D photos feature for its users.
What is a Facebook 3D Photo?
This is a new AI-powered feature to let users share 3D photos on Facebook. It can be used using the portrait mode of an iPhone and other smartphones with dual camera setup. The app uses the portrait mode to render 2D photos in 3D. The dual lens setup helps the platform in using information between the subject in focus and the background and foreground.
How to view it?
Any Facebook user can create, view and share Facebook 3D photo. Users can even view these photos in VR (virtual reality) using the Oculus browser on Oculus Go or Firefox on Oculus Rift. To view 3D photos on the phone, you simply need to scroll or tilt your device. These photos will also be available in Facebook News Feeds.
To access Facebook’s 3D photos, you need an iOS device with dual camera setup. As of now, devices like iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max support the feature. The 3D photo feature will soon come to Android flagship phones like Samsung Galaxy Note 9, OnePlus 6, LG V35, etc.
How to create and share 3D Photos
Creating a new Facebook post through the official Facebook app is quite simple. Tap on the three dots for more options, choose 3D photo option. Now you can tap 3D Photo to view the iPhone’s gallery section, you can choose any photo that you have taken using the portrait mode.
How to master Facebook 3D photos
•Ensure that the object is at least 3 to 4 feet away.
•Capture the image with multiple layers of depth
•Ensure that the subject has contrasting colors
The subject with some texture and solid edges are best for 3D photos.
