Some of the initial apps that were launched on July 10, 2008, included The New York Times, MLB at bat, Ebay, etc. Before the birth of the app store, the software industry was dominated by a few large companies. Apple’s entry made it easier for any developer to come up with a great idea, build a high-quality app and monetize in the process. Apple has delivered a great experience on its app ecosystem over the last 10 years.
In a press statement, Apple’s senior VP of worldwide marketing, Phil Schiller said, “In its first decade, the App Store has surpassed all of our wildest expectations — from the innovative apps that developers have dreamed up to the way customers have made apps part of their daily lives — and this is just the beginning. We could not be more proud of what developers have created and what the next 10 years have in store.”
Apple’s app store has always been a closed ecosystem. As compared to Android, the tech firm has been cautious about its vetting process. For a long time, Apple took weeks of time to approve the submitted app. The company has streamlined the process recently. The strict guidelines for the app submissions have helped Apple in keeping its standard high.
By 2017, Apple had already paid over $70 billion to its app store developers. The company keeps motivating skilled developers in creating better apps for the ecosystem. Each year, at WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference), Apple awards top developers in each category.
Making good app requires good design sense, sound programming knowledge, creativity in naming the app & other related documentation, dedication and a lot of hard work. Over the years, Apple has made a lot of fundamental changes to SDKs for app developers. Just a few years back, Apple adopted Swift as an official programming language to develop apps for Apple’s software ecosystem.
India has been the fastest growing mobile app market in the world. A large number of mobile development companies from the country have been driving the major part of app development for iOS and Mac. Although there a large portion of app developers in India who still focus on Android over iOS, Apple has still covered significant ground and taken the battle head on with Android.
