Governor Yoshihiro Murai announced at the Miyagi Prefectural Government on the 25th that the “Meeting of Chiefs Aiming to Eliminate Nuclear Power Plants” will be held by the mayors of municipalities nationwide and those who have experience over the restart of Tohoku Electric Power Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant Unit 2 (Miyagi Prefecture). I asked the prefectural executives to withdraw the local consent to restart.
Nine co-caretakers, including Hajime Mikami and the former mayor of Kosai City, Shizuoka Prefecture, handed over a document addressed to Mr. Murai. The document points out that “there is no effective evacuation plan in the event of an accident and it has not been confirmed.” A prefectural executive responded, “It is the country that enhances effectiveness.”
After handing it over, Mr. Mikami emphasized to the press that “the governor’s decision is quick. I think he has not heard the opinions of the citizens of the prefecture.”
Tohoku Electric Power is aiming to restart after 2022.
