Kansai Electric Power Mihama Nuclear Power Plant Unit 3 = Mihama Town, Fukui Prefecture

Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. announced on the 22nd that it will restart Mihama Nuclear Power Plant Unit 3 (Mihama Town, Fukui Prefecture), which has been in operation for more than 40 years, on the 23rd. After the accident at TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, it will be the first time under the rule that the operating period of the nuclear power plant is “40 years in principle, 20 years at the longest”. It also revealed that the anti-terrorism facility required for the nuclear power plant will not be completed by the installation deadline and will be shut down again on October 23.

It is the first time in about 10 years that Mihama Unit 3, which had been stopped due to regular inspections in May 2011, is in operation. Since there are important facilities that have been in operation for a long time and the outage period was long, KANDEN inspected the piping and equipment inside the nuclear power plant from the end of last month to the beginning of this month.
