Kao Corporation and Kyoto University announced that they will start a demonstration experiment of a device that recycles used disposable diapers without burning them by the 28th. Moisture is removed while heating at low temperature to make a powdery carbon material. Since it is not incinerated, it does not emit carbon dioxide, which causes global warming, and the material can be expected to be used for activated carbon and electrode materials.

The device is expected to be completed soon, and will be installed in a nursery school in Saijo City, Ehime Prefecture in April to check its performance and usability. He said he would aim for practical use in four years at the earliest.

Paper diapers are made of multiple materials such as pulp and plastic and are difficult to recycle.
