Hiroshi Ishiguro, a professor at Osaka University who is known worldwide for robot research, announced on the 7th that he has established a new company “AVITA” aiming at practical application of avatar (alternate) technology. In addition to being introduced at the 2025 Osaka / Kansai Expo, where Mr. Ishiguro is involved as one of the producers, the aim is to utilize it for customer service in the real world as well.
Five companies, including Osaka Gas, Shionogi, and CyberAgent, will invest a total of about 500 million yen in the new company, and will collaborate in industry and academia.
Mr. Ishiguro said at a press conference held in Tokyo, “I want to create a mechanism that can hold the Expo even with the new coronavirus disease. I will dramatically expand the possibilities of people with avatars.”
