Chief Cabinet Secretary Kato speaking at the first meeting of the relevant Ministerial Meeting = Prime Minister’s Office on the morning of the 16th
On the 16th, the government held the first meeting of the relevant ministerial meeting (execution meeting) at the Prime Minister’s Office for the steady implementation of the basic policy on the disposal of treated water at TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. In order to consider measures against reputational damage caused by ocean release, it was decided to establish a new working group to hear opinions from related parties and to formulate a medium- to long-term action plan by the end of the year.
At the meeting, Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato stated, “We will actively take measures with a sense of speed in order to deepen understanding at home and abroad.” He expressed his intention to secure the necessary budget.
It was also confirmed that the relevant ministries and agencies would cooperate to promote monitoring of radioactive substances contained in treated water and to foster understanding in Japan and overseas.
