Asteroid Bennu captured by the camera of the spacecraft Osiris-Rex in December 2018 (combination of multiple images, provided and jointly provided by NASA, etc.)

[Collaboration with Washington]On the 10th, the US version of the US Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) asteroid explorer OSIRIS-REx left for the earth to bring back the rocks collected on the asteroid Bennu. The rock was successfully collected in October last year, and in September 2023, a capsule containing rock was dropped in the desert of Utah, western United States.

If the rocks of the asteroid are successfully delivered to the earth, the Japanese spacecraft will be the third one following Hayabusa and Hayabusa2. The Hayabusa2 team is a plan to exchange some of the rocks collected by each team and investigate them, which will be useful for clarifying the origin of the solar system and the origin of life.
