Don’t use these two features to avoid affecting WhatsApp Privacy

WhatsApp privacy was in talks for some time now where users were worried about data theft. However, this is no longer the case as per the new announcement of WhatsApp for its new terms of services and privacy policies. These new additions will be made from 8th February 2021 after a log of privacy concerns and backlash.

A clarification was issued by Facebook-owned messaging app that clearly mentioned to not use two features to ensure privacy. In the FAQ section of WhatsApp, it is mentioned that the new policy will not affect the messages privacy of users with family or friends. The update might affect the business accounts that are included in an optional feature.

WhatsApp offers end-to-end encryption to users that makes it easy for them to maintain privacy and noon including Facebook and WhatsApp can read the messages from family or friends. They had no logs of user calls or messages as per their statement to avoid ‘privacy and security risk’.

WhatsApp also can’t share the contacts with other applications. The contact sync is only on to make it easy and quick to send messages from the app.

The only data that WhatsApp shares with Facebook is related to the interaction with businesses. In the coming months, the company might allow businesses to opt for hosting services by Facebook to simplify the communication process. But to do so, a label will be added to showcase the use of hosting services.

Business accounts of WhatsApp can also use Facebook Shop platforms in the coming months to market and display their products. The data will be shared with Facebook if the user’s shop from businesses using Shop platforms to show ads on Instagram and Facebook.

Facebook will add a button navigated to its WhatsApp platform to allow you to message businesses directly. If a user clicks on this button to get in touch with businesses then only the data will be shared with Facebook to use in ads.

Hence, Facebook will not review the personal chat between the users. They will be able to review the chats of users with businesses for advertising purposes on Instagram, Facebook, and other platforms.
