Facebook to bring Messenger Rooms to WhatsApp Web

Facebook has planned to bring its video calling platform to WhatsApp Web. The introduction of Messenger Rooms will help the company take on other platforms like Zoom, Google Meet etc.

This could also prove to be a huge threat to video calling platform, Zoom. Even reports published earlier indicate that WhatsApp is working on adding Messenger Rooms option int eh chat share sheet. The Messenger Rooms shortcut will make it easier to access video calling on WhatsApp Web version.

The shortcut was first spotted by WABetaInfo in the WhatsApp Web v2.2019.6. The shortcut will help users connect with their friends and family via Messenger Rooms from their PCs and laptops.

Messenger Rooms is a video conferencing platform by Facebook. The tool allows hosting group video calls for up to 50 participants. You need not have a Facebook account to join the Messenger Rooms call. You can simply click on the link provided by the host to join the call.

COVID-19 outbreak has forced people into a lockdown. Tech giants have improved their own video calling platforms. Google has made its premium tool, Meet available for free for users with Gmail account. Zoom has improved the security features of the tool.

The company plans to add the shortcut under the Attach button along with other options. The new version hasn’t been rolled out to all users yet. WhatsApp will get the feature in future updates.
