Google Drive gets Face ID, Touch ID security for iPhone and iPad users

Google has started rolling out a new update for Google Drive on iOS and iPadOS. The users can now lock the app using Face ID or Touch ID.

The feature called Privacy Screen is intended to help users keep their Drive account more secure. The users will also get an option to customise the Delay for FaceID or TouchID kick-in. You can set it for 10 seconds, 1 minute, or 10 minutes depending upon your preference. The privacy screen has some limitations as well.

You need to ensure that you are running the latest version of Google Drive app on your iPhone or iPad. After installing the available update, open the app, go to Settings > Privacy screen and enable the feature. You can also choose the delay time as per your preference from this screen.

Google has clarified that Privacy Screen won’t hide notifications, other system functionality, and certain Siri functionality. It does not protect files shared with files app on iOS. It also does not get enabled for photos shared with the Photos app.

The company had announced this feature in mid-April. It started rolling it to users this month. The Privacy Screen is similar to the Google Pay app. Unlike Drive, you cannot disable the authentication requirement on Google Pay app.
