The search engine giant has simply tweaked the current UI to make it look like Android Auto. The change was first spotted by Android Police. The biggest change is the Android Auto-styled buttons and home-screen navigation pane.
The new ‘car mode’ could replace the current Assistant Driving Mode. Google has constantly made changes to Maps UI, helping the users make it easy to navigate while driving. One such change is the music playback options shown in Maps navigation.
However, the interface and buttons similar to Android Auto were never thought of. This interface in question looks a lot like Android Auto’s view. The bottom features two buttons – one for voice and another for the home screen.
The third button features Maps icon which resembles actual navigation screen as a quick way to return. There are music control options right above. The large size text and button will make it easier to read the title of the track, helping you keep eyes on the road.
The home-screen button opens an intuitive screen to help you reach all essential options – calls, messages, podcast apps, and music player. The calls screen allows you to contact the most recent dials. You can also open up the actual dialer by clicking on ‘call someone else’.
The existence of the new UI is a bit puzzling as it will be identical to Android Auto phone UI. There is no clarity on when Google plans to deploy this new Maps navigation mode. The report on Android Police suggests that the company is already testing this feature.
