The plugin was available on GitHub as a beta version. Now it is available as a full WordPress plugin. Web Stories is a way to use existing content to create short-form content. The WordPress plugin offers a drag-and-drop interface for making full-screen as well as tappable content. The content is found in Google Search and Discover.
Web Stories plugin creates a visual interface within WordPress. It breaks away from the traditional WordPress interface. Users get almost Photoshop-like experience to build individual stories. The editor is completely a drag-and-drop solution.
The plugin comes with 8 predefined templates. Google plans to add more templates to save efforts from users. The content that is in the Web Story format can be seen at the top of the regular Google Search.
Google has partnered with stock image and video providers to make images and videos available to plugin users. Two such partners are Unsplash and Cover. The company plans to add more templates, stock image integration and new feature soon.
To install the plugin, you need to ensure that you are running on WordPress v5.3.1 and PHP v5.6. These are the bare minimum requirement that most WordPress publishers are already running on. Web Stories is currently available at the WordPress plugin repository for download. You can find it through your admin dashboard.
