The Japanese tech news site, Nikkei Asian Review says that a source told the publication about Google’s testing of 5G smartphone. Google is supposed to launch two new 4G Pixel smartphones at an event on October 15, the company may announce the 5G handset at the event. The company has always been at the forefront of enticing customers with its own-branded hardware and integrate them with its proprietary AI-driven software offering.
If Google announces its 5G powered smartphones on October 15, it will be the first US company to challenge Apple and other leading handset makers. It will also challenge Microsoft, which recently announced its
foldable smartphones. The tech firm is supposed to launch the foldable devices next year. If Google announces 5G-enabled Pixel, its rival companies will be forced to work on the 5G phone.
Pixel’s 5G test model is currently being produced in China. However, the company may have to produce the final product outside of China. The 5G handset will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 processor. While, this is just a rumour leaked by Nikkei Asian Review, if Google hints at its work on 5G handset on October 15, it will eventually launch the 5G models in spring next year.
Google’s Pixel series still has less than 0.5% marketshare but it is growing every year. The company aims to sell as many as 10 million phones this year.
