The new Edge logo will appear across all platforms in the coming weeks. The Edge icon was unveiled by Microsoft more than four years ago. The earlier logo resembled the past versions of Edge browser – the Internet Explorer. The new logo that Microsoft is introducing was discovered as part of a new surfing mini game hidden inside the latest Canary version of Edge. The logo looks like a wave and follows a similar Fluent Design style that is introduced in new Office icons.
Edge logo spells out the letter E in a fluent style. It is more modern than the earlier Explorer-resembling logo. Microsoft is breaking the tradition of following old-design of logos. The open source Chromium technology-powered internet browser is likely to improve the adoption of the Edge browser. The new logo resembles the new change.
Microsoft has explained how it introduced the new logo to its employees. The new icon was revealed in an elaborated Easter egg hunt. As part of the activity Microsoft employees posted cryptic clues to a series of puzzles and images. The participants were asked to render an Edge icon as a 3D object. The model code was hidden in an image, which led to a series of words discovered in seven clues.
The secret edge surfing game is very similar to SkiFree, a classic skiing game that Microsoft had launched with Entertainment Pack 3 in 1991. You could use WASD keys to navigate and avoid obstacles. Microsoft will release the final version of Edge Chromium browser soon. The new logo could be introduced publicly at Ignite conference next week.
