Sony launches 5G enabled Xperia 1 II with triple camera setup

Renowned gadget maker, Sony has launched its first 5G handset featuring advanced smartphone camera. Xperia 1 is the first smartphone offering triple-lens Mark II lens. The same lens is used in Sony’s Alpha camera line up.

The premium smartphone maker has packed the ZEISS optics with advanced camera capabilities in this device, making it the world’s first smartphone to pack this lens. It comes with the triple-lens setup with three focal lengths of 16mm/24mm/70mm. The official release notes that the camera packs 21:9 CinemaWide 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED display. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset makes this smartphone 5G capable.

The 4000 mah battery assures long battery life. It will be available in Black and Purple colour. Sony will start shipping the device from late Spring 2020 in the European market.

Sony also mentions that the smartphone comes with IP65/68 water resistance. The company had planned to present this new smartphone at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) which got cancelled due to concerns over widespread of the coronavirus.

The company has also added a new smartphone to its mid-range lineup. The Xperia 10 II, which comes with 6-inch 21:9 wide display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC, IP65/68 water and dust resistance and Android 10.

This device also features the triple camera setup offering 4K video recording. The lenses include a 12-megapixel lens and two 8 megapixel lenses with focal length combination of ultra-wide-angle (16mm), wide-angle (26mm), and telephoto lens of 52mm).

Sony has developed an all-new camera app to allow finer manual controls over video and photo settings. Both the devices are aimed at video and photography enthusiasts. Sony has not revealed the prices yet.
