You can no-longer use WhatsApp on these iPhones

The global messaging platform, WhatsApp is clearly the most popular cross-platform application with more than a billion users around the world. Facebook-owned service has decided to cut down support for iPhones running iOS 7 or older versions.

The change comes along with the government’s push to stop the spreading of fake news. The messaging service will no longer be available on selected iPhones. According to the report, the messaging application won’t work on Apple iPhones running iOS versions prior to iOS 7.1.2. the company has updated its FAQ section detailing the latest changes.

WhatsApp for iPhone requires the devices to run iOS 8 or later. The users of iPhones running iOS 7.1.2 or older can continue to use the service till 2020. The move will largely affect users of iPhone 4S, 5, 5C or 5S users. The FAQ section clearly reads that WhatsApp for iPhone requires iOS 8 or later.

The messaging platform had earlier updated that it will stop working on Android versions 2.3.3 and older. The company had even pulled support for Windows Phone 8.0 and older. With the latest announcement, WhatsApp will end support for Windows Phone 8.0 and older, iPhone 3GS/iOS 6, and Nokia’s Symbian S60.

Apple recently launched the latest iOS version, iOS 12 this month.

The tech firm launched the new OS along with the new line-up of iPhones. The iOS 12 is expected to support till iPhone 5s, which was released way back in 2013. WhatsApp has decided to withdraw the support considering that, it will only affect a minority of users. Unless you are running an older iOS version, you should not be worried about the update.

According to Apple’s official page, only 85% of iPhones are running on iOS 11, 10% of all iPhone users are running IOS 10 and only 5% are still stuck on older devices. The messaging platform has decided the move to offer better security and features to iPhone users.
