Lots of vacation for little money
Looking for inspiration for summer vacation? A new study shows where in Europe the price-performance ratio is right. FAZ.NET presents the winners.
IIn which European cities do you get the most vacation for your money this summer? The booking platform AirBnB asked itself this question and commissioned a study from the online statistics database Statista. The study was carried out in March 2018. As part of the study, Statista compared 27 cities across Europe and examined six “price-performance categories” – from the most hours of sunshine to the best welcoming culture. If you don’t want to do without fast internet on your days off, you will also find it. A different methodology was used for each category.
These are the winning cities:
Most of the sunshine is in Madrid
With the most average hours of sunshine per euro for travel expenses for accommodation (booked on AirBnB), meals and travel to and from the city, Madrid is the destination of choice for a city trip with good weather guarantee. The sun shines an average of 20 hours per weekend in the Spanish capital. With an average cost of 598 euros for a weekend trip for two, you get a lot of sun here for little money.

London has the best shopping opportunities
London is actually not exactly the ideal destination for the light budget. The British capital is known more as one of the most expensive cities in Europe. But with an average of 660 euros for a weekend trip for two people and the largest selection of shopping offers, the financial metropolis wins this category. The Globe Shopper City Index from the Economist Intelligence Unit was used to determine the number of shops in each city. The usually cheap flights have also helped the British capital do the best here.

Zagreb is characterized by the best welcoming culture
In the context of the EU Urban Audit survey, it was found that almost 90 percent of the surveyed residents of Zagreb see an advantage for the city in the presence of foreigners. This open mindset, combined with the low total cost of travel, earned Zagreb first place in this category. For an average of 588 euros, two weekend visitors can convince themselves of the hospitality in the Croatian capital.

There are the most beautiful city parks in Warsaw
The Polish city of Warsaw clearly won the category of the greenest cities. For this purpose, figures from the OECD were used, which measure the green spaces per inhabitant in metropolitan areas. The city convinces with an average of 470 euros for a weekend trip for two not only with particularly low travel costs compared to other cities, but is also one of the greenest cities in Europe. The Estonian capital Tallinn is also particularly green.

Bucharest offers the best internet connection
The best download speed in comparison to the average travel costs for a weekend for two is offered by Bucharest at 592 euros. So if you depend on fast internet even on vacation and want to take a cheap short trip, this is the right place for you. In contrast to Germany with an average download speed of 27.2 Mbit / s, surfing in Bucharest is fast at 80.14 Mbit / s. Of course, the “Paris of the East” has a lot more to offer – such as the Palatul Parlamentului, the largest administrative building in the world.

Prague has the best cultural offer
The best travel destination in this category is a city that takes up most museums per euro of travel expenses. Here, Prague wins almost unrivaled with 508 euros for a weekend trip for two. The city combines low travel costs with a seemingly endless choice of museums. According to data from the EU’s Cultural and Creative Cities Monitor, the Czech capital has a total of 309 cultural sites.
